We usually meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at
the Wrest Point Casino Hotel,
Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay, where there is usually a guest
speaker. During the summer months,
we may meet outdoors to enjoy a guided walk to a local place of
interest. The Society has a dinner
and speaker in June and December. Click

The image above is a detail from the photograph "Bellerive
Panorama from Mornington Hill" which was taken
during the visit to Hobart by the Duke and Duchess of York in July
1901. This image is provided to the SBHS
courtesy of the Tasmanian
Museum and Art Gallery. It shows the rural hillsides of
Sandy Bay. The hawthorn
hedges which divide the land grants can be clearly seen.
Members who attended the "Sandy Bay Connections" conference in
1997 will recall that Mssrs Medhurst and
Hallam communicated by radio with the HMS St George which
accompanied the HMS Juno and the Royal
Yacht HMS Ophir in which the Duke and his bride were travelling.
Keen researchers may speculate as to the idenity of the vessel shown in this image.
